Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is extra funding that the government gives to schools to help improve the education of children who may face barriers to learning. This funding is based on information collected in the school census and is given for children who:

  • Are currently eligible for Free School Meals, or have been eligible at any time in the last six years (known as Ever 6 funding).
  • Are Looked‑After or Previously Looked‑After (Post‑LAC).
  • Have a parent serving in the Armed Forces, to support their emotional wellbeing and stability.

The purpose of this funding is to help ensure that all children, whatever their starting point or background, can achieve their full potential. The Department for Education expects schools to use this funding to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and to follow national guidance when planning how the money is spent.

At St Peter & St Paul CE Primary School, our Christian vision — “Striving for excellence together in a caring Christian community” — guides how we support every child. Our values of Compassion, Respect, and Courage shape the way we use the Pupil Premium to nurture children academically, socially and emotionally.

How We Use the Funding

We use the Pupil Premium to:

  • Provide extra support to help children make strong progress and achieve well.
  • Remove barriers that may affect learning, such as gaps in knowledge, emotional needs, attendance challenges or limited access to enrichment opportunities.
  • Ensure children can access high-quality teaching, targeted support and wider opportunities such as trips, clubs and pastoral provision, in line with national evidence‑based practice.
  • Help close any gaps between disadvantaged children and their peers, both within our school and nationally.

We review the progress of children who receive Pupil Premium regularly and put additional support in place when needed.

Our Policy and Strategy

To make sure we use this funding effectively and transparently:

  • We publish a Pupil Premium Policy, setting out our long‑term aims and responsibilities.
  • Each year, by 31 December, we publish a Pupil Premium Strategy Statement using the required Department for Education template. This includes our three-year plan, how we intend to spend the funding, and a review of the impact of last year’s actions
