2008 News (updated September 2008)

Year 2 Homework - Homework will be given out on every Friday. Your child's homework book will be due in by the following Wednesday. If not completed, please ensure the book is still in school every Wednesday, for the new homework to be stuck in.

Remember In addition to your other set homework, you should be practising multiplication tables (2,5,10 times), learning spellings and reading every week.

The homework set is intended for your child to do independently to support work being done in class. If your child is having difficulty with any of the tasks set, please let me know, either by making a note in your child's book or popping in after school.

Reading books - Children will be heard read individually as often as possible and through guided reading, in a small group every week.

Reading books will be changed on Mondays and Wednesdays, but must be in school EVERY DAY as parent volunteers come into school at different times to hear your child read.

Library books - Your child will also have the opportunity to choose a book from the school library, which can be taken home and shared.

There will be an opportunity to change these library books on Fridays if your child wishes to and for them to choose a different book.

This term we will be looking at the history theme of “Through the Ages”. In Year 2 we will be finding out about people and events from the past. This will include – The Fire of London, Samuel Peyps, the Gunpowder plot and Remembrance. Throughout this term many of our activities will be linked with this topic.

In Art we will be exploring colour mixing as well as making a model tile. Our PSHE will focus on relationships and in Science we will be investigating materials properties and looking at how some materials change.

In music we will be listening to and learning songs linked to our topic as well as exploring pitch. Of course Mathematics and Literacy will continue as normal.
